The Good Old Days Of...Sexism

Sometimes I hear people saying how things were so much better in the past and how they wish they could turn back the clock and go back to the good old days.

As for me, I say no frickin way!

Over my dead and decomposing body would I want to go back to the days of this...

...this...

... or this...

Youd have to drag me back kicking and screaming to a time when women were thought of as personal property; treated as nothing more than housekeepers, baby factories and servants to their husbands. A time when it was perfectly acceptable to bar women from many professions and pay them less than what a man was paid in any type of job (if they were even allowed to have that job, or any job). And to a time when it wasnt unheard of for a man to routinely beat his wife to keep her in line. Many women slapped around in the good old days learned to live with it. Society did not begin to pay significant attention to domestic violence until the 1970s.

Id rather get stung by a swarm of wasps than go back to a time when women were considered exasperatingly stupid and incompetent, and portrayed that way. Like in the vintage ads in this video:

Oh sure, the good old days were not such a bad time for men who were waited on, looked up to and obeyed. But for women? Gawd... They weren't exactly magical times.

Like anyone around my age or older, I like to take an occasional detour down nostalgia lane and reminisce about some good times I had with family and friends. But not in a million years would I give up how far we've come along and turn back the clock to live in the 'good old days'. Correction... Not in a billion years.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!
