Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.
- Luther Burbank -
This year is one of the most spectacular gardening seasons Ive ever seen due in part to the cool and wet summer we had, which the plants loved. There has been a continuous explosion of colour since the garden woke up in the spring, and although most of the plants are done, there are still some happily blooming away despite the colder nights and shorter days.
Come take a stroll with me in the backyard. Lets enjoy the flowers while we can because itll all be over soon...
The lovely Anemone hybrida Honorine Jobert' looking stressed, but still blooming away. |
Rosa Grandiflora 'Tournament of Roses' was added this year, and it thrived. It's still going strong. |
A garden friend enjoying Sedum 'Autumn Joy', which will bloom until late fall. |
The velvety leaves of a Cimicifuga (bugbane) after the rain. |
The most popular daylily, Hemerocallis Stella de Oro, blooms throughout the summer and fall. |
It's not surprising to see these buds on the fall-blooming Cimicifuga simplex Black Negligee. |
From mid summer to mid fall, Rudbeckia fulgida Goldsturm shows off its golden daisies. |
Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora' is another new addition to the garden this year, and it seems to like it here. |
The delicate flowers of a sedum. I'm not sure which one this is. Perhaps the showy 'Mediovariegatum. Anyone? |
Rudbeckia hirta Prairie Sun continues to amaze me with its beautiful flowers. |
Gaillardia 'Arizona Apricot' blooms continuously from early summer to mid fall. |
The end of the gardening season wouldn't be as spectacular without morning glories. |
Gaillardia Dazzler is a top performer. Even the little critters love it. |
Achillea Moonshine has been a bit hit this season, and it's still hanging on. |
What an amazing gardening season its been. I will miss these little miracles when they settle down for their long winters nap. Spring wont return too soon for me.
Have a lovely day, everyone!
