Today's Trivia - Wacky Canadian Laws

Well, as many of you have realized by now, Ive committed a few days a week to a particular theme. Fridays are dedicated to providing my visitors with important information about those impish, fuzzy little critters called ferrets, so that anyone who wishes to take one home can be better equipped to care for it. It also helps people decide whether this is the right pet for them. Or not.

Saturdays are reserved for humour, which is good for your health. I mean, youve heard the popular expressions laughter is the best medicine and a giggle a day keeps the doctor away, havent you? Sure you have. Whats that? Apples? Dont be silly. Apples dont keep doctors away, giggles do.

On Tuesdays I get to share some of my favourite recipes, all of which are very simple to prepare; perfect for individuals that dont have time to put together complicated meals, and for individuals that are culinary-challenged. And on Mondays (something I introduced this week) I will write about things I wonder about, topics that interest me or issues that I feel compelled to share an opinion (or a complaint) about.

And each one of these days is aptly titled.

Ferrety Friday
Saturday Silliness
Mondays Musings
Tasty Tuesday

That leaves Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Do I plan to do anything special on these days? The answer is yes and no. No, I will not do anything special with Wednesday and Sunday; those are two days of the week that will retain their free-to-write-about-whatever status for the time being. And yes, I will assign a theme to Thursdays, which you should have guessed what it is by the title of todays post: trivia.

Thursdays will include some type of interesting but absolutely useless piece of information. Youll get to learn something you didnt know (or maybe you did) that might come in handy when youre playing a board game (like trivial pursuit) or watching jeopardy or trying to make small talk (something that many of us have difficulty with). And if youre anything like me (an information junkie), you might actually enjoy it.

Whats that? Do I have something to share today?

You bet I do. The interesting but totally useless trivia for this Thursday is all about silly and outdated laws, starting with some in my own beloved country.

10 Wacky Canadian Laws:

1) In Guelph, Ontario the city is classified as a no pee zone! (Id love to know how this came to be).

2) In Toronto, Ontario its illegal to drag a dead horse down Yonge St on a Sunday! (Does this mean that any other day of the week is okay?)

3) In the province of Alberta, it is illegal to set fire to the wooden leg of a wooden-legged man.

4) In Ottawa, Ontario it is illegal to eat ice-cream on Bank Street on a Sunday.

5) In the province of Quebec, it is illegal for margarine to be the same colour as butter.

6) In Oshawa, Ontario its illegal to climb trees.

7) In Calgary, Alberta if you are released from prison, it is required that you are given a handgun with bullets and a horse, so you can ride out of town.

8) In Saskatoon, Saskatchewan it is illegal to try and catch fish with your hands.

9) In all of Canada, citizens may not publicly remove bandages.

And my absolute favourite:

10) In British Columbia, it is illegal to kill a sasquatch. (Grin...)

And lest my friends down south feel left out...

Off The Wall American Laws:

1) In West Virginia, no children may attend school with their breath smelling of wild onions.

2) In Vermont, lawmakers made it obligatory for everybody to take at least one bath each week on Saturday night.

3) In Pennsylvania, a special cleaning ordinance bans housewives from hiding dirt and dust under a rug in a dwelling.

4) In Oklahoma, violators can be fined, arrested or jailed for making ugly faces at a dog. (You gotta love Oklahoma!)

5) In Nebraska, a parent can be arrested if his child cannot hold back a burp during a church service.

6) In Massachusetts, mourners at a wake may not eat more than three sandwiches.

7) Also in Massachusetts, snoring is prohibited unless all bedroom windows are closed and securely locked.

8) In Kentucky, it is illegal to transport an ice cream cone in your pocket. (Is that an ice cream cone in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?)

9) In Indiana, it is illegal for anyone to give lighted cigars to dogs, cats, and
other domesticated animal kept as pets. (I guess ferrets are included here.)

And my favourite American law:

10) In Florida, if an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee
has to be paid just as it would for a vehicle. (Bigger grin...)

Now, dont you feel so much smarter after this weeks trivia?
