One of the most interesting things we encountered while biking along this past summer is the mural artwork that is a result of Kingstons first ever street art festival, which took place during the week of August 18 - 24.
City Council unanimously waived the graffiti by-law for that period, and twenty artists transformed a retaining wall, which consists of 23 concrete panels, into an art gallery. This event took place at Douglas R. Fluhrer Park; a beautiful 2.85 hectare (7 acre) waterfront recreational area.
We didn't attend the festival where you were able to watch the artists at work, but we did stop by to see the artistic results and snap some photos.
Take a look at some of them...

A once boring concrete wall, which you only see a small portion of it here, is now an art gallery. |

Is it just me, or does the creature above seem to be part squirrel, part dragon and part mermaid? |
A brooding artist with a sense of humour? |
Look how sad the flower is. Things will get better, little flower. |
Isn't this just fabulous? |
A little bit of this and a little bit of that. |
It's no wonder the poor raccoons always get a bad rap. |
Artwork with animals in it is always enjoyable. |
I love this. So wonderfully moody. |
Fantastic creation. And fun! |
These are just a few of the many unique and contemporary art projects we saw on this wall. They will remain here for a year, at which point they'll be painted over to refresh the area. I hope to share more with you in the future.
I tell you, theres just no end to the interesting things you encounter while biking along.
Has your area ever hosted such an event?
