Orchids - Pretty Plants for Your Home

Beautiful Blue Orchids

Everytime I go into the local home improvement store, I automatically gravitate to the greenhouse area. It is my favorite area to walk through and enjoy all of the displays and the lovely plants.

Even though I spend all day caring for tropical plants on commercial accounts, I still love to browse through the tropical potted plants and the orchids are some of my favorites. But I guess everyone loves orchids, how could you not?!

You can grow these beauties in your home and they add so much to any room for such a small tropical plant. If you find you have brought one of these blooming beauties home and now wonder how to care for it, well maybe I can help out. If you are thinking of acquiring an Orchid, it is handy to know some things to look for when you buy.

When your Orchid arrives home, you should place it in a window, if possible. East or West facing spots are ideal but be sure to protect it from hot afternoon sun. Direct sun, especially through glass can damage any plant.

In less than adequate light, you will need to reduce the frequency of watering and the blooms will not last as long as they would in a well lit room. Read more about care for your orchid...

California Orchids

Beautiful Orchids
Do you love orchids? I know that I do. Although many of them need a special environment that not everyone can provide, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the unique beauty of these wonderful plants.

We most often use Phalaenopsis orchids in our interior landscapes and that is the type I usually keep at home but there are thousands of types of orchids. Wouldn't it be fantastic to see many of these all in one place?

If you live in the Santa Barbara, California area or plan a visit or trip to the area, you might want to consider stopping in at the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. Check them out and be amazed at the scope of orchids they have on display and for sale.

As an additional bonus, there is an annual orchid show in Santa Barbara. The 70th Annual Santa Barbara International Orchid Show will take place March 13-15, 2015. There will be an art show and sale, information on flower arrangement and exotic displays and, of course, orchids to see and orchids for sale! What a great way to spend a weekend and there are so many other things to do in the area.

Although I was born and raised in California, I only recently learned about the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate. I currently live out of the state but am planning to attend the orchid show in March of 2015. Mark it on your calendar. Maybe I will see you there!

If you need some information or help with your indoor plant care, you can visit us at PlantAndFlowerInfo.com. Have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend.

Orchids, Fragrance and Bonsai

National Orchid Garden-Singapore
If you live in or are travelling in Southeast Asia and you are a plant lover, you might want to take in the wonderful flora and fauna at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The botanic garden, an oasis in the highly urbanized Republic of Singapore, boasts a diversity of plant life for visitors to enjoy.
There are many sections of the garden including the Rain Forest, the National Orchid Garden, Bonsai Garden, The Healing Garden and the Fragrant Garden.
The National Orchid Garden has over 1000 orchid species and 2000 orchid hybrids on display. Orchids have been associated with the gardens since 1859 and many of the Orchids are products of their orchid breeding program, which began in 1928.
Showcasing over 400 medicinal plants, the Healing Gardens was designed as a tranquil respite. The main focus is on medicinal plants used traditionally in Southeast Asia. Come in and enjoy the peaceful serenity of the garden.
Located near the Healing Garden is the Fragrant Garden. The name says it all. A boardwalk runs through the garden and is beautifully lit at night. Breathe, relax, enjoy.
Don't forget to visit the Bonsai Garden and the many other areas of this wonderful urban sanctuary. You will find something for everyone at the Singapore Botanic Garden.
Whether you are in Singpore, the United Kingdom or Las Vegas, Nevada, come visit at PlantAndFlowerInfo.com for help, information and care tips for your indoor house plants. We are always here to help. Thanks Plant People!

Orchids Plants and Pictures

Paphiopedilum Orchid
There are many great places on the internet to find pictures, images and photographs. I was looking through some websites last night trying to find some orchid pictures when I came across a fantastic site. I have never seen so many great orchid pictures all in one place.
The photographer is named as QT Luong. It also says that many pictures are from "our home-grown orchid collection".
Take a look, it is quite unbelievable. The website is terragalleria.com and the images are available through license.
All of those flower and orchid lovers out there, take a look, if you haven't seen this work before. I am amazed at that extent of these photographs.
If you purchased a houseplant (or an orchid) from your local nursery or retailer and you need some assistance with its care, come visit PlantAndFlowerInfo.com. After you take a look at QT Luong's great images!

Tropical Orchids - House Plants and Care

Orchids - Tropical Houseplants and their Care

Orchid Flowers
Orchids are beautiful and unique flowering plants that you can keep in your home. Often considered difficult to care for, there are varieties that can be grown in the home. They do require good light, some humidity and proper temperatures but most anyone can keep one of these gorgeous tropical house plants with a little care, proper watering and some patience.

There are thousands of types of Orchids but only a few can be kept successfully in the average home. These include Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Cymbidium and Dendrobium orchids. You will find one or more of these types of Orchid available at most stores that sell indoor plants.

Phalaenopsis Orchids, or Moth Orchids, are the type generally found in local stores that do not specialize in plants and flowers, such as your neighborhood grocery store. That is because they are one of the easiest to care for Orchids. Read more about Orchids and their care...

Houseplants and Flowers For Christmas

Best Wishes To All - Christmas Plants

First of all, just want to wish everyone, around the world, a happy holiday season! Merry Christmas and Happy 2014...
Just wanted to remind any of you that know folks with a Plant Passion, that indoor plants and flowering houseplants make great gifts for Christmas. They are also gifts that last (unlike that Fruitcake) and NO extra pounds (unlike those chocolates)!!!
So, if you need a gift for the Plant Person in your life, I have compiled some of my favorites from an affiliate and put them together on my website. These are gifts that can be delivered for you and any person that you know who enjoys indoor plants would love one of these!
And I receive a small commission to help keep my site running and me eating!
Thanks and have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year! And don't eat too much!
